Aunty Robbie has been the founder of this hula hālau, or hula school, from the beginning when it started in October 2005.She has always believed in ‘Aukai and Ka‘au and that one day they would be very prosperous in sharing the culture, history and language of Hawai‘i here in Oregon.Aunty Robbie has not only helped the hālau, but also founded the Minidoka Swing Band in September 2007 and also spearheaded numerous volunteers to help with the Goose Hollow Family Shelter every last Saturday of the month from November to May during the cold winter season.
Since she was diagnosed with colon cancer seven months ago, the hālau has agreed to dedicate all of their performances in honor of Aunty Robbie Tsuboi. With the help of family and friends, she has been very dedicated to receiving her chemotherapy treatments and fighting the battle to victory. Just recently, Aunty Robbie has decided to stop all treatments as the benefits are very limited for her body.
On Saturday May 8th, Aunty Robbie started her journey with our higher spiritual power. In Hawai‘i, we call it Akua, or God. Aunty Robbie is no longer suffering from any pain that the cancer has caused, instead, she is dancing her hula in the spirit of aloha with all of those who has left a footprint before us.
